The Foundations of the Urban Vision with Emphasis on Allameh Tabataba'i's Theory of Constructive Perceptions

Abstract

The urban vision delineates the principal directions and desired horizon of development, constituting a crucial pillar in the strategic planning system of cities. Currently, the dominant theoretical foundations for vision production are neoliberalism and socialism. The present research aims to formulate the foundations of an urban vision based on the philosophical wisdom (Hikmah) of Allameh Tabataba'i, relying particularly on his innovative theory of Constructive Perceptions (Idrakat-e Etebari), to propose a novel and indigenous framework for vision development. To this end, the study first examines the ontological, epistemological, and anthropological system within Allameh Tabataba'i's philosophy. Subsequently, in the second stage, it analyzes his original theory of Constructive Perceptions as one of the main frameworks for formulating foundational principles. Finally, the research presents a conceptual framework comprising nine key principles that can serve as a basis for developing an urban vision model, elaborating on their connections to urban goals and challenges.
