Abstract
Proportion is a key feature of Iranian-Islamic architecture. It is essential for the cohesion and unity of different sections of a building, contributing to its stability, visual aesthetics, and harmony. The application of proportions in individual architectural elements is vital, and these proportions are often found across multiple buildings, even those with different functions. This study focuses on analyzing the proportional relationships between the length of courtyards, the height of minarets, the height of iwans (vaulted halls), and the height of surrounding chambers in mosques, schools, and mosque-schools of the Qajar period in Tehran. The central question of this research is: How do the geometric and proportional relationships of one building manifest in others, even with different functional purposes? The proportions of each type of building have been recorded and analyzed in separate tables, and the results show that mosque-school architecture incorporates proportions from both mosques and schools of the period. Moreover, the functions of mosques and schools are integrated within mosque-schools, demonstrating a consistent architectural harmony among their components.
